I know my shopping habits have changed since i started couponing. I definitely pay more attention to each individual stores pricing and sale ads. I’ll be honest i never even picked up a sale ad until i started couponing :/ I always have some sort of plan/list…whether it’s a big list and my coupon binder or a small list and an envelope of coupons, I always have a game plan. I now shop at stores i never would have imagined I would. For instance, you can get some great deals at the major drugstores like CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens. I always thought they were so expensive, BUT shopping their sales, using coupons and their reward systems have definitely changed my mind! I have less impulse buys on cosmetics/health & beauty items because i know I can get great deals at the drugstore if I just wait for a good sale and coupon matchup. I am no longer brand loyal, I buy whatever is on sale with a coupon instead of sticking to a certain brand all the time. I also used to go to the store once a week and buy all the things I need for that week regardless of if they were on sale or not and I would spend close to $200.00 each week. I now have a good stockpile of products purchased with coupons so I can concentrate on stocking up on things we will use when they are at good stock up prices, (which saves you money in the long run) instead of needing so much stuff that it leaves me no leftover money for stocking up. <—That leads to buying multiples of a product when it is a stock up price! There was no way i would go buy 6 jars or miracle whip before but now If i find something we use a lot of on a good sale with a coupon, I stock up to last us until the next time it’s on sale. I’m so much more frugal now that I started using coupons, I clearance shop for clothes at the end of the season and buy a size larger for my kids for the next year as well as calling my service providers and asking for discounts and reviewing plans to save the max amount of money i can. How have you changed your habits?
Ok so I will be the first to admit I get burned out on coupons all the time! It happens to every couponer at some point so don’t feel bad if it happens to you. Sometimes clipping, sorting, organizing, making lists, driving to all the stores, trying to eye every deal in ther store, hauling your goodies home and finding a place to store it all can get very tedious! Whew…i just came off a break from couponing and i must say it is refreshing! So here is my advice to anyone suffering from coupon overload:
1. Don’t go after every deal! This is a great piece of advice for any new couponer. You will want to go to every store, use every coupon and get every deal, but doing so will burn you out quickly!!
2. Wait for a really great sale! You will get to the point where you have a good little stockpile and there isn’t anything you really just have to have. So when a great sale comes you will be all to excited to get out that binder and get couponing again!
3. Take a break! Sometimes couponing get to be too much! Working, doing all your daily chores, taking care of a family and running errands can be a lot and adding on couponing tasks can be too tiring, so just shopping the sales and price matching can save a good bit if you need a little break.
4. Set aside a certain time to clip and file your coupons! I cant tell you how many times I have clipped a few coupons here and there and ended up with a disorganized mess that i didnt want to deal with! Now I try to set aside 20 minutes a day a few times a week to clip, organize, and browse the sale ads. Maybe during your kids’ nap times or when you settle down to watch your favorite tv show. I try to clip for a few minutes and then immediately file them in my binder so the clipped pile doesnt get too out of control! There will be weeks that you will fall behind so don’t be too hard on yourself, there is always going to be another deal so missing a few will be ok!
This is a great article on how to save money at Target. Like how to decode those clearance tags to see if an item will be marked down any further. Also what days of the week they mark down specific items, for ex: cloting, home decor, jewelry. A must read for any Target shopper looking to save some $$$$ ;)

I have been getting a lot of questions about couponing lately so i decided to answer them on here:
Coupon Question #1 : Is the show extreme couponing real?? And can you really get 1000’s of dollars of “stuff” for just pennies? I’m just going to give my opinion on this one and you all feel free to do the same…When i first started watching the show is when I really started couponing…i used to use an occasional coupon for diapers if i got one in the mail…i had no idea people were “extreme couponing”. I think the show has shed light on couponing as a way to save money and giving back to charities and their communities, but the people on the show have also done some shady things such as coupon fraud and clearing shelves of all of one product which is unfair to other shoppers. Also the stores, in an attempt to get some publicity have bent their rules on coupon redemption for some of the people on the show so the everyday Joe may not be able to do some of the things they have on the show. So after couponing for about 2 years, Yes i think it is possible to get lots of stuff for cheap or free BUT you cannot get everything you need to sustain a family for free…nobody can live off hot sauce and toothpaste! UPdate: i do not watch TLC’s extreme couponing anymore ;)
